GINA Amends FLSA to Increase Penalties for Child Labor Violations As reported in the June issue of Briefly, President Bush signed into law on May 21, 2008 the Genetic Information Non-Discrimination Act of 2008 ("GINA") (see "Genetic Discrimination Law Bill Becomes Law" June 2008 Briefly). In addition to prohibiting discrimination by employers and health plan insurers based on genetic information, a provision of this new law also increases the penalties imposed on an employer for violations of the child labor sections of the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1983 ("FLSA"). |
